Chal Kumro curry with Moong Dal recipe:
Dal plays a major role in the Indian cuisine especially in north India, Chal kumro moong dhal is a famous traditional Bengali recipe. Chal kumra commonly called as Ash gourd is found all over the country and used to make different kind of recipes like sabji, kurma, desserts and sweets. Chal kumro curry is light and healthy curry that we cook as an everyday dish. This is commonly called as Ash gourd dhal curry or Ash gourd with yellow moong.
Ash gourd is sold in market as winter melon and winter melon curry made with moong dhal is rich in nutritional value, this is a simple and nourishing recipe served as a side dish along with steamed rice and Roti. This is also commonly called as Chaal Kumro diye Muger Dal.
Ash guard recipe is packed with lot of health benefits, it benefits diabetic patients and induces relief from peptic ulcer and it acts as a cooling agent. Chal kurma Bengali recipe is also available at any authentic restaurants in North India. Moong daal is high in proteins and serves as a best protein supplement for vegetarians and other ingredients like ginger, cumin seeds and coriander add spicy flavour to the dish.
Cooking chal kurmo with moong dal requires intermediate cooking skills as if all the ingredients are ready it takes 15 to 20 min to prepare the dish and we can serve it for lunch and dinner. Chal kumro chingri is a non veg dish made with ash gourd and shrimps. Ash gourd halwa is on the go dessert for festivals and special occasions.
- Chal kumro slices - 1 no.
- Moong dal - 1 Cup
- Green chili - 3 nos.
- Dried red chili - 2 nos.
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 Tbsp
- Oil as required
- Salt as required
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 Tbsp
- Coriander leaves chopped - 2 Tbsp
- Ginger - 1 piece
First of all get ready with all the necessary ingredients such as chal kumro, split green gram, green chili, coriander leaves, cumin seeds and ginger.
Heat a pan and fry split green gram in a low frame for few minutes till it turns to golden brown in color.
Then chop the chal kumro wash well and keep the roasted gram and all those ingredients for cooking.
Then take a pressure cooker and add chal kumro, roasted split green gram, water as required and salt to taste. Close the cooker and cook well.
After cooked the chal kumro and dal place them in a vessel and then in another plate take the chopped coriander leaves, green chili, crushed ginger and cumin seeeds.
Then heat a pan on high flame and pour some oil. Then add the dry red chilli and cumin seeds for tempering.
Then add the crushed ginger and fry for 1 minute.
Then add the boiled gram, chal kumro and turmeric powder and salt. Mix well and cook it for 5 minutes on high flame.
Then add the green chili and chopped coriander leaves in to the chal kumro moog dal and mix it well and cook it for 2 minutes on high flame.
Then serve hot in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve this recipe with hot rotis or hot steamed rice.
