The taste infused by these flavors along with sambar powder and asafoetida “hing” is so humble yet delicious.
Dal tadka recipe is served with the jeera rice, steamed rice or even phulkas. Load up a serving of dal tadka bowl with generous ghee and you won’t stop eating! In our version, we have added tamarind squeeze for the needed tanginess, but you can skip this option and instead squeeze a dash of lime just before serving. Dal tadka is an amazing flavorful dal recipe with simple ingredients.here i used to make dal tadka using different types of lentils such as Yellow Gram,Bengal Gram or whole Black Gram,Here i used to cook the dal tadka recipe using tuvar gram as Indian Home style.This is best to have with both the Lunch as well as Breakfast recipes.
- Bengal Gram - 3/4 Tbsp
- Onion - 1 No.
- Tomato - 2 Nos.
- Garlic Pods - 8 Nos.
- Tamarind Extract - 1 Tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tbsp
- Red Chilly Powder - 1 Tbsp
- Green Chilly - 2 Nos.
- Dried Red Chilly - 2 Nos.
- Curry Leaves - 4 Nos.
- Coriander Leaves - 1/2 Tbsp
- Oil - 2 Tbsp
- Mustard Seeds - 1/4 Tbsp
- Cumin Seeds - 1/4 Tbsp
- Hing - 1/4 Tbsp
- Ginger Slices - 1/2 Tbsp
- Sambar Powder - 1 Tbsp
Rinse and soak 3/4 cup of Bengal gram fpr ten minutes and drained out the water,
Roughly chop one onion and two ripen tomatoes and fine chop some ginger and green chilies,Peel off some garlic pods,
Take a pressure cooker add the well rinsed Bengal gram,chopped tomatoes,green chilies and ginger slices and add some onions too,reserve some onion slices for tempering.
Then add all the powder ingredients such as red chilly powder,sambar powder,a pinch of hing and add some turmeric powder with them,
Add enough water and freshly extracted tamarind extract with them,add enough salt for them,cover the lid and brings to pressure cook for four or five whistles,
Remove the lid when the pressure releases itself,and now transfer the pressure cooked Gram mixture to a whisking mud pot,
Whisk well the pressure cooked ingredients using a wooden ladle till it comes to soft and mushy,Transfer the whisked dal to a bowl,
Heat a tadka pan add some oil then add some mustard seeds and cumin seeds and add some reserved onions and fry for a seconds,
Then add some dried red chilies and some curry leaves with them and stir for few seconds,
Adjust the salt for the dal mixture then pour the tempered ingredients over the prepared Dal mixture,
Garnish some coriander leaves and serve hot with hot steamed or plain rice.and also better to serve with Idly Or Dosa Recipes.
