Moong Dal Tadka Recipe
Moong dal tadka recipe is one of the healthy lentils recipe made in the Indian cuisine across all the states. Rich in protein, it is an easy to cook recipe. Some of the other Indian curries made in households are vegetable dal, tomato dal, sambhar and dal makhani. Simple and healthy, no wonder moong dal tadka is a favorite among vegetarians and people who spend less time cooking.
First, rinse the split yellow gram and soak in water for few minutes. Then, drain out the water. Now, you have to pressure cook the dal. You can add roughly chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies along with turmeric powder, hing and required salt. Allow three to four whistles, wait for the steam to escape and then open the pressure cooker. Whisk the cooked split yellow gram using a blender or a ladle.
Following this, heat cooking oil in a tadka pan and add mustard seeds. On spluttering, add cumin seeds. Now, add crushed garlic pods and sauté until you get rid of the raw smell. Add dried red chillies and a sprig of curry leaves to the pan. Pour this tadka mixture over the pressure-cooked split yellow gram and mix well. Add chopped coriander leaves for garnishing and serve hot.
As can be seen, this is a quick to make lentil recipe, which requires very little effort. You can serve this dal recipe with steamed rice, chapathi or jeera rice. It is a recommend dish for all age groups. Instead of cooking using a pressure cooker, you can also choose to prepare this recipe in a boiling pot. You can also add bay leaf for a different flavor. Some would consider the taste of plain dal bland. However, the tempering makes it flavorsome and desirable.

- Split Yellow Gram - 1 Tbsp
- Onion - 1 No.
- Tomato - 1 No.
- Garlic Pods - 5 Nos.
- Ginger - 1/4 Tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tbsp
- Green Chilly - 3 Nos.
- Dried Red Chilly - 3 Nos.
- Curry Leaves - 4 Nos.
- Coriander Leaves - 1/2 Tbsp
- Hing - 1/4 Tbsp
- Mustard Seeds - 1/4 Tbsp
- Cumin Seeds - 1/4 Tbsp
- Oil - 1 Tbsp
Rinse and soak the split Yellow gram for few minutes and drain out the water.
Add the rinsed split yellow gram to a pressure cooker along with a roughly chopped onion, tomato green chilies and add little turmeric powder, a pinch of hing and enough salt.
Cover the lid and pressure cook for three to four whistles, when the pressure releases itself open the lid.
Whisk well the pressure-cooked split yellow gram mixture using a ladle or hand blender.
Heat a tadka pan, add some oil, when it gets hot splutter some mustard and cumin seeds.
Then add some crushed garlic over them and stir for few seconds until the flavor comes out.
Then add some dried red chilies, curry leaves sprig and fry for a few seconds.
Pour the tadka mixture over the well-whisked Yellow gram mixture, garnish some coriander leaves, and serve hot.
