Healthy and Tasty curried spinach | Palak paneer recipe:
India is nation with largest vegetarian population across the globe. In India vegetarian dishes are found everywhere. Among many vegetarian recipes Paneer or Cottage cheese recipes are also famous across North India. Though classified as North Indian recipes Paneer recipes are eaten everywhere in India. Hence, one such paneer recipe originating from the state of Punjab is Palak Paneer. Palak, as said in Hindi, translates to Spinach in English. It is also known by other names like Spinach in cottage cheese gravy, Curried spinach with cottage cheese, Spinach cottage cheese gravy, Cottage cheese in spinach gravy, paneer green gravy etc.
Cooking Palak Paneer requires moderate cooking Skills. This recipe can also be prepared within 30 minutes of time. This recipe is eaten as main course during Lunch or Dinner. Many people cook Palak Paneer during festivals or special occasions. They are absolutely famous within Kids and Adults. This preparation is generally eaten with flat breads like Phulka, Chapati, Naan or with rice preparations like Jeera rice, Biryani, or with simply White rice.
As the name suggests, the main ingredient of this recipe is Palak or spinach. Spinach is also good for health. It contains proteins, vitamins and dietary fibre. It also contains minerals necessary for human consumption. In short spinach is treasure trove of health benefits. Paneer or Cottage cheese is also equally good for health. Other ingredients like Garlic, Tomato, Ginger, Onion are good for health and make the recipe more palatable. We have added Garam Masala and Red Chillies to increase the spiciness of this curry. Palak Paneer in whole is also a very healthy and tasty curry.
Palak Paneer is actually a variant of the original paneer curry. We can also prepare this Paneer curry at home or we can enjoy at restaurants. This curry is good way to feed spinach to kids who generally not like it.
- Palak (Spinach) - 200 - 250 grms
- Chopped onions - 1/2 Cup
- Medium size tomato - 1 no.
- Cloves - 2 Nos
- Garam Masala - 1 Tbsp
- Red Chilli Powder - 1 Tbsp
- Paneer - 1 Cup
- Garlic - 2-3 Cloves
- Jeera - 1 Tbsp
- Salt as per needed
- Oil - 4 Tbsp
- Water as needed
- Ginger - 1 inch
Wash twice the palak leaves in running water, you can use it with tender stems.
Boil 2 cups of water, add washed spinach leaves in hot water. Keep it aside for 5 minutes, Leaves become soft. Drain the hot water, Use this stock water for gravy preparation. Again rinse with cold water, it prevent green colour of leaves.
Add boiled leaves to the mixer, add ginger and garlic piece. Make it into fine paste. No need to add water.
Meanwhile oil fry the cubed paneer pieces. It become soft with golden edges.
Heat a pan with 1 tbsp of oil, add 1 Tbsp of jeera, cloves let them splutter, add chopped onion fry till turn its colour.
Now add the chopped tomato in it and fry for sometime. Saute till tomato turn to mushy.
Add 1 spoon of garam masala powder, red chili powder, salt as per taste. Stir well oil releasing from the sides.
Now add palak puree. Stir well and add a cup of water or stock water. Allow to boil. In this time add fried paneer pieces.
Cook on simmer flame. Paneer cubes absorb curry and turn succulent.
