Let us briefly look at making a soothing fruit dessert made of Papaya fruit. Carrot halwa and moong dal halwa is famous all over. And are made at home for festivals like diwali and special occasions. Recipes from Kerala have their own flavour and taste. And one among them is papaya Halwa. It has a very mild, slightly tangy and light taste. This is best served as a dessert after main course for both lunch and dinner.

In Indian sweet recipes this is considered as healthy recipe. It also called as Boppayi Halwa, papite ka Halwa. Papaya fruit halwa with jaggery recipe is made mostly in the southern part of the country. Papaya fruit halwa is also available in Authentic Kerala restaurants. Preparing papaya Halwa and milk combination requires only moderate level of cooking skill as this dessert is easy to prepare. This is also one of the go to desserts made during the festive season in Kerala and major parts of Tamil Nadu.

The preparation of Papaya orange Halwa uses the raw papaya. Hence, if you wish to add higher amount of sugar which gives you more sweeter taste than that of a fruity taste. When you opt for a fully ripen papaya and add low sugar. In addition Papaya fruit improves digestion and it has loads of nutrition. We can add nuts and dry fruits like grated cashews and almonds’ of our choice to add richness of the dish.

Papaya ka halwa can be made easily with the simple ingredients. That we have in home like ghee, milk, cardamom powder, dry fruits and nuts. Because these ingredients increases the nutritional value of the sweet. Finally the preparation of papaya smoothie and papaya payasam uses ripen banana.

Ingredients

  • Ripe Papaya - 1 no.
  • Sugar - 1/2 Cup (as per sweet of papaya)
  • Ghee - 2 Tbsp
  • Raisins - 6-7 nos.
  • Water - 3 Cups
  • Milk - 1 Cups

Method

Step 1

Peel the papaya, chop it into two half and remove pith and seeds.

Grate papaya finely and take that in a bowl.

Boil the papaya by placing the bowl inside the pressure cooker, cooker consists of 2 to 3 cups of water.

Close the pressure cooker and put on the stove for 5 to 10 minutes in a high flame.

After the papaya was cooked filter the excess water from papaya. You can use this juice for halwa preparation.

Take 2 cups of milk in a vessel and boil it for sometime in a high flame to thick the milk.

Add boiled papaya to the milk and continuously stir well for sometime in a medium flame.

Add sugar to the mixture, you can reduce the sugar level, based on fruit sweet. Mix well until the sugar dissolves with the milk.

Add 2 tbsp of ghee to the mixture and mix well. We are using ghee in order to enhance the taste. Cook the halwa till whole together.

Finally add raisins to it and mix well. Put off the stove. Now, the papaya halwa recipe is ready to serve.
