The Bengali cuisine consists of many Vegetarian as well as Non Vegetarian recipe. Potoler Dolma is one such Non Vegetarian recipe that is famous all around the country. In Bengali people may call Pointed Gourd as Potol . This recipe is known by other names like Stuffed Pointed gourd with shrimps, Potol er Dolma, Stuffed Pointed Gourd with Prawn, Chingri die Potol er Dolma, Chingri Die Potole Dolma, etc.
Cooking it requires moderate level cooking skills. It takes around 30 to 40 minutes in order to cook. It is mainly served as Side Dish. This recipe is best enjoyed with Rice. This recipe is an instant hit among Kids and adults.
The main ingredient of the recipe is Pointed Gourd. Pointed Gourds are very good for health and are great in taste. Pointed gourd is stuffed with shrimp making it even tastier and healthier. Mustard Powder or Chilli powder is generally used in this recipe to enhance the flavour as well as increase the health benefits from this recipe. Potoler Dolma is great recipe that we may cook for special occasions or celebrations.
Also it is generally cooked at home. Potoler Dolma is a traditional recipe of West Bengal. There is also a vegetarian version of Potoler Dolma available that people may popularly call it as Niramish potoler Dolma. This recipe is the basis for many other stuffed pointed gourd recipes like Pointed Gourd with Coconut milk, Potol er Malaikari, Stuffed Pointed Gourd with Paneer, etc. We can enjoy this recipe with friends and family. Nothing tastes better than Potoler Dolma with rice in a sunny afternoon.
- Pointed Gourd - 3 nos.
- Shrimp - 1/4 Cup
- Mustard Powder - 2 Tbsp
- Red Chili Powder - 1/2 Tbsp
- Salt as for taste
- Oil - 2 Tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tbsp
Peel the skin of pointed gourd and keep them whole. Wash the shrimp and clean them well to remove the ribs and the veins. Take some mustard powder which would form the mustard paste.
Scoop the pointed gourd so that the substance inside is totally brought out and only the shell remains as shown in the image.
Take the washed shrimp and chop it into smaller pieces.
Heat oil in an utensil and add the deseeded and scooped material from the pointed gourd. Sprinkle some salt and add some red chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
To the mixture add the chopped shrimps and fry them well.
Make coarse paste of shrimps mixture.
Take the paste from the mixer and fry it well. Add the mustard paste and cook well till the water is drained.
Set aside the stuffing in a bowl and let it settle so that it can be stuffed well inside the scooped out pointed gourds.
Take a small portion of the stuffing and put it inside the hollow of the pointed gourd. Repeat the same step for all of the pointed gourds.
Grease the air fryer and preheat it. Place the stuffed pointed gourd and roast it in that greased tray till each side turns slightly brownish in color and the skin gets soften. Repeat the same step for the other side of the pointed gourd and then when all sides are softened the stuffed pointed gourd is ready to be served.
