Sabudana Khichdi recipe in Maharashtrian Style:

Sabudana or Sago is a ready to eat agricultural product available all across India. It is used in many kinds of recipes. We can prepare Sabudana into Khichdi. It is famous all across in India. Sago Khichdi originates in the state of Maharashtra. It is also called Maharastrian Style Sabudana Khichdi or Sago Khichdi.

Sabudana Khichdi is also easy to cook. It takes around 15 Minutes of time to cook Maharastrian Style sago khichdi. The preparation can be served as both Side Dish and Snacks. Sabudana Khichdi  tastes great when it is taken with Pappad. Sabudana is easy to digest so it is good for Kids and Toddlers. Since cooking Sabudana Khichadi is very easy even Bachelors can cook it.

The main ingredient of Sabudana Khichdi is Sabudana or Sago. Sabudana is a rich source of carbohydrates. It also contains Proteins and Vitamins. It is also available in herbal medicines. This also helps in joint pains and help in dealing with Hypertension. All in all the health benefits of eating Sago are endless. Sago also helps in weight loss. Ingredients

  • Sabudan - 1 Cup
  • Potatoes - 1/4 Kg
  • Ghee - 2 Tbsp
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1/2 Tbsp
  • Salt as per taste

Method

Step 1

Take sabudana 1 cup, twice wash and soak in water for about 8 hours until they turn to soft.

Press with your hands it get mashed. This is correct consistency. Drain excess water from the sabudana and kept in a separate plate.

Take some potatoes, cut it into two equal halves and boil them in a pressure cooker for 2 (or) 3 whistles.

After whistles, cool down and open the lid take the potato and peel out the skin from it.

Heat a pan with some ghee.

Add some salt to the ghee and stir well in a low flame.

Once the salt is dissolved add 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper powder and made it fry in the ghee.

Now add soaked sabudana to the ghee, Saute in slow flame. Sabudana pearls lightly fried in ghee.

After sometime sabudana is well cooked and translucent, at that time add boiled and mashed potatoes.

Saute sabudana and potato in a low flame for 3-5 minutes. Transfer the sabudana dish to a bowl and serve it.
