The recipe of Tomato Upma originates from the states of Andhra Pradesh and is a part of South Indian Cuisine. Upmas are also famous all over India. There are different types of Upmas present. Most of all, are Cracked Wheat Upma, Broken Wheat Upma, Dalia Upma, Lapsi Upma, Masala Broken Wheat Upma etc. The Tomato Upma is also called Tomato Dalia, Godhuma Rava Upma, Godhi Nuchhu Upma or Dalia Tomato Bhaat depending on the location of where it is prepared.

Tomato Upma is also an easy to make recipe. And it takes around 30 minutes of time to prepare this recipe. Also, it can be served as Breakfast or Snacks. We can also have it for Lunch or Dinner. The recipe of Tomato Upma goes very well with Coconut Chutney or Pickle.

The main ingredients of the Tomato Upma recipe are Rava and Tomato. Rava or Semolina is also good for health and is famous all over India. Tomato on the other hand is also full of nutrition and health benefits. The sweet and sour taste of Tomatoes makes this recipe more palatable. Hence, the other ingredients that used in this recipe are Green Chillies, Cumin seeds, Mustard Seeds, etc. They enhance the flavour as well as increase the health benefits of this recipe. Hence, this recipe in short is great for health and it tastes great too.

Ingredients

  • Dalia - 1 Cup
  • Chopped Tomatoes - 1/2 Cup
  • Chopped Green Chilies - 2-3 nos.
  • Water - 2 1/2 Cup
  • Oil - 2 Tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tbsp
  • Butter - 1 Tbsp
  • Salt as for taste

Method

Step 1

Take dalia 1 cup, white rava or wheat rava. Here i use wheat rava. Dry roast the rava, now a days roasted rava are available in market.

Boil 3 cups of water.

Chop tomato and green chilies.

Step 3

Heat a pan, add oil or ghee. Made it heat for sometime in a low flame.

Add cumin seeds and add mustard seeds. Let them crackle.

Step 5

Add chopped tomato and green chilies into the oil, saute till tomato turn soft and mush.

After they are cooked, add hot water and again roll boil for some time.

Sprinkle salt as per needed. For check salt, taste the water, water should salty.

Slowly add dalia into the water by stirring it with a spoon in order to avoid any lumps. Stir well and cover cook for 2-5 minutes.

Once the dalia is cooked well and water fully drained. Finally add the butter to enhance the taste. Transfer the dish to a bowl and serve it pickles or chutneys.
